I was very honored to have been selected as an editor of the third editorial board for the Journal of Dialectics of Nature [自然辩证法通讯(Ziran bianzhengfa tongxun)], undertaking editorial work for a three-year period from January 1, 2013 to December 31, 2015. On March 31, 2013, I participated in the first editorial board meeting held at the Beijing Friendship Hotel, where I met with the director of the editorial board, Mr. 范岱年(Fan Dainian), and editors from all over the country. At the banquet, Mr. Fan specifically mentioned that several of his family members had studied in Tokyo and Sapporo in Japan. The editor-in-chief at that time, Professor 胡新和(Hu Xinhe), was a colleague of mine at the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and had been a friend since September 2001. Professor Hu’s office was just in front of mine, and he provided me with an invaluable academic support, which was encouraging me very much. It is particularly worth mentioning that Professor Hu, who was a well-known Chinese philosopher of science, was also the Chinese translator of the worldly well-read The Structure of Scientific Revolutions, by my teacher at Princeton University, Thomas S. Kuhn (1922-1996). Sadly, however, this talented professor passed away in the early morning of May 13, 2013. I had discussions with Professor Hu about my present essay in his capacity as the editor-in-chief of this journal. Therefore, I would like to dedicate this article to the memory of Professor Hu Xinhe.
